Interview Blood Tsunami

METAL CHOC

Can you tell us more about your new album called « Grand Feast For Vultures » ?

- Well, it was recorded autumn 2008, again in Lionheart Studios where we recorded our debut. It consists of 7 songs, basically aggressive thrash but also other, more melodic songs with a strong NWOBHM influences.

Can you speak to us about the recording sessions ?

- The drums were put down during two days only, with me being sick of fever actually. Anyway, since Pete has 4 kids, we can only work like twice a week or something like that so obviously it takes time. Anyway, after more or less 3 months in studio we were finished. The album were mastered in England.

How did you proceed for the composition ?

- Well, Pete basically comes up with the riffs and suggested arrangements. Then him and I sit down together in our rehearsal place trying out the various stuff. When we think we have enough meat around the bones we present it to the others. Naturally the songs are subject to vast changes before we decided it's a satisfying song.

What are the lyrics talking about ? Where do you find inspiration ?

- Pete writes all the lyrics and they deal with the typical thrash metal topics, death and disaster, haha, although a few is a bit more introspective this time around, a bit more serious if you want. Anyway, it's all dark and eerie. We leave politics to other bands.

Who created the artwork ?

- Again we used the fantastic skills of Alex Horley, who also made the cover on our debut, only this time his painting is slightly darker.

Did you film a promotional video ?

- No, because we are some lazy bastards, haha! Hopefully we will soon.

What are your favourite songs out of this new album ? And what makes them so special for you ?

- Probably Castle of Skulls because it is in my opinion our signature song + the title track because it's so short and brutal.

Which songs from the album will you play live ?

- Hopefully all, at least if it's our gig. If we support someone else we will probably pick the ones that we know goes best with the crwod.

What are your touring plans ?

- So far we toured with bands like Zyklon, Dead Beyond Buried, Evile and Satyricon. We will hopefully put together something during this summer or autumn, we ought to because it is important to show that we can pull off our material live as well.

How do you prepare yourself mentally or physically before you enter on stage ?

- I try to get warm, basically my whole body but especially my wrists, arm and legs. Then I try to relax and tell myself I have played these songs a hundred times before, haha! I always have nerves you know.

Do you remember your first gig ? How did it go ?

Can you tell us an anecdote which particularly marked your career ?

- When Dead asked me if I wanted to join Mayhem, getting the gold album award for In the Nightside Eclipse, being part of the birth of a scene (Norwegian black metal), playing the tribute to Quorthon at the Hole in the Sky-fest in Bergen with the elite of Norwegian black metal musicians, getting to know all the great people I have meet through the years and last but not least, releasing my best album this far: Grand Feast for Vultures.

And as a conclusion, can you say some words for my radio show called Metal Choc ?

- Be true to yourself, stay metal and never bow down.
